IMPORTANT NEWS - Please read the facts:

Many have been concerned about traveling to Mexico and specifically Cancun due to the outbreak of the swine flu. In an attempt to give some perspective, thus far there have been 497 non fatal cases of the flu confirmed worldwide including 34 in Canada and several in the United States. Not to minimize the severity but the World Health Organization reports that there have been 13 deaths associated with the flu- 12 in Mexico and one in the U.S.

There are unconfirmed reports of 2,500 to 6,000 persons showing flu-like symptoms worldwide. But even if these numbers stand up, they, too, should be seen in context. All influenza viruses are potentially deadly. It is estimated that between 6,500 and 7,500 Mexicans die from pneumonia - like diseases in a normal year. According to the Canadian Medical Association Journal 1, up to 2,500 Canadians die each year from the flu and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2 reports that about 36,000 Americans die annually in the United states from the flu (63'000 in 2005 alone 3). Worldwide, the number of deaths attributed to the flu each year is between 250,000 and 500,000.

So, yes, there have been deaths from this flu variant. There will almost certainly be more. But, relatively speaking, we're still in the realm of low numbers. What's more telling - so far, at least - is that most who contracted this strain of the virus have recovered quickly.

As of today there are ZERO (0) confirmed cases of Swine Flu (H1N1) in the Yucatan Peninsula, and yes, that includes Cancun

Should you be worried about coming to Cancun for Vacation? Only in the way people worry about catching influenza in any other place in the world. So far Cancun is perfectly safe.

It's safe to vacation in Mexico: PAHO
Influenza alert - Wednesday May 6 (16:35 hrs.)

Washington, May 6 - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) confirmed today that all touristic travel to Mexico it's safe as long as The World Health Organization's recommendations are followed.

"If I had to go to Cancun (Mexico), I would", answered Dr. Jon K. Andrus, Head of the PAHO's Regional office for the Americas.

Andrus emphasized that all recommendations from the WHO, like washing your hands and maintaining healthy habits are enough to travel safely to touristic destinations.

The expert in public health also mentioned that there are great possibilities of more outbreaks on the southern hemisphere because of the winter season.

Andrus ratified that Mexican authorities did the correct thing in diagnosing the nature of the illnesses responsible for the fatalities up to this moment.

Andrus ratified the point of view from the WHO and the PAHO that "The Mexican answer (t the influenza outbreak) has been excelent". (Notimex/MVC)

From its beginnings in 1996, The Omni Cancun Vacation Club has been a pioneer in the time share industry. The club at the Omni Cancun Hotels & Villas was developed and designed to be a unique hybrid between the time share ownership vacation options that were then available and the luxury services afforded to guests at a 5-star Caribbean resort. And indeed that is what evolved.

Membership in the Omni Cancun Vacation Club offers each member numerous discounts and privileges not available to other hotel guests. Also each member is afforded a complete array of wonderful amenities one expects when checking into a luxury resort hotel property. In addition, owners reap all the benefits of property upgrades without the burden of additional cost. For example, the resort has just finished a $15 million dollar (USD) renovation project and none of the cost was passed on to our members. The renovations included upgrades to both indoor and outdoor facilities as well as complete redecoration of all hotel guest rooms, suites and villas. This key factor means that each Vacation Club membership grew in its value with no additional expenditure by the owner of the membership. You can't beat that!

Members purchase a vacation club package designed to suit their specific budgetary and vacation needs. This purchase essentially freezes your vacation expenditures and fixes the pricing for the future. Members find an overall cost savings in traveling as a Club Member. Membership at the Omni Cancun Vacation Club also gives you exchange privileges with Interval International a global vacation conglomerate. This affiliation enables our members to exchange vacation weeks for other similar resorts around the world. Hundreds of options are available in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Omni Cancun Vacation Club General Director Katia Vara says, "I do not think there is another vacation club in Cancun that cares as much for its members as we do. We are a young company with the ability to be more personal with our very important members. No matter how large we may grow to be, we want to keep our human touch and make sure that our members know that they are like our family and not just customers."
